April's Top Performers: Mississippi

Martin Prado, 2B, Mississippi

Martin Prado has been impressive enough this year to warrant a call to Atlanta once a rash of middle infield injuries occurred. Martin is currently leading Mississippi with a .304 average with no homers and 2 steals. Prado doesn’t have a lot of power but hits for a good average and plays most infield positions.

Yunel Escobar, SS, Mississippi

The Cuban defector is enjoying a successful first full season. He is hitting .287 and has come up with many clutch hits this year for Mississippi. He will likely get the first call to Atlanta once Edgar’s time is over.

Paul Bush, RP, Mississippi

Paul Bush has excelled as a long reliever for Mississippi this year. In 10 appearances, Bush has pitched 18.2 innings with a 2.41 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. Bush has 2 victories and 2 losses to go with his 20 strikeouts.

Will Startup, RP, Mississippi

Startup, drafted just last year, has been terrific thus far. In 17 relief innings, Startup has yielded a 1.06 ERA and 0.65 WHIP. He also has a fantastic K/BB ratio at 21/3. Will Startup has a very bright future.

Chris Waters, SP, Mississippi

Chris has been somewhat of a surprise so far this season. He has 2 victories in 5 starts while fashioning a 3.18 ERA in the process. He has also struck out 27 in his 28.1 innings.
